about composers

Viktor Molnár is one of Hungary's most promising young composers of his generation. Raised in Nagykökényes, Hungary, Molnár entered Budapest's Leo Weiner Conservatory at the age of 14. In 2013 he was accepted into the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. He graduated in 2019. Following graduation from The Academy, he won two Junior Composers Artist Awards: The Artisjus Award and The Istvánffy Benedek Award. Three years in a row he won The Zoltán Kodály Composition Scholarship.

In his works, Molnár often reflects on current social and cultural issues. His inspiration comes from a range of ideas, including his keen observation of relationships, new scientific developments, and his collaborations with dancers and choreographers.

Two of his compositions won the 2020 Müpa Zeneműpalyázat. That same year he won 1st Prize in The Gustav Mahler International Composition Competition. His achievements further expanded by the 2nd prize at the Generace 2023 composition competition in Czech Republic, the 3rd Prize at the Scuola Internationale Musica Composition Contest in Milan (Italy), furthermore the 5th Prize at the Progressive Classical Music Award in Germany, and 1st Prize at the János Arany Composition Competition in 2018 (Hungary).

Molnár bears a great sense of responsibility to the music edification of the youth of Hungary. Through his regular collaborations with artists of all genres, he teaches his students to find the vast creative possibilities in contemporary music. He teaches composition and piano at the Leó Weiner Conservatory and in the György Kroó Music and Art School, where he also serves as accompanist.
